Club Information

The Rotary Club of Ripon Rowels, whose name comes from the items made by former craftsmen spurriers of the City of Ripon, came into being in 1990 as an offspring of the Rotary Club of Ripon, which itself was formed in 1927.

Black a MoorWe meet at the Black a Moor, Bridge Hewick, ( on the B6265, 2 miles East of Ripon) every Tuesday evening at 7.45pm for an 8.00pm meal.
Visiting Rotarians are most welcome- please click here to inform the secretary (G. Milner) of your intended visit, or ring him on 01765 677505.

The format of Rotary meetings varies from Club to Club, the older Clubs being more formal, though these Clubs usually have strong traditions that are jealously guarded.
There is often a speaker at each of our Club meetings (which lasts approximately two hours) two thirds of the meeting is taken up by the meal and any business, and the speaker has the remaining time.
Every first Tuesday of the month we have a business meeting and where there is a fifth Tuesday in the month we normally have this as a ladies night, when we invite our partners to join us.

The Club is made up of less than 40 members from varying backgrounds and jobs.
We are a diverse group of professional leaders working to address various community and international service needs. Through community service and other means, our Rotary club members help promote peace and understanding throughout the world.

Rotarians planting treesOur members are our most important asset. They are the force that allows Rotary to carry out its many humanitarian efforts and achieve its mission. Our Rotary club strives for a membership that is an up-to-date and progressive representation of its community's business, vocational, and professional interests. Membership in Rotary offers a number of benefits, including:

  • Effecting change within the community
  • Developing leadership skills
  • Gaining an understanding of, and having an impact on, international humanitarian issues.
  • Developing relationships with community and business leaders
