About Rotary |
The Rotary Club of Ripon Rowels, whose name comes from the
items made by former craftsmen spurriers of the City of Ripon,
came into being in 1990 as an offspring of the Rotary Club of
Ripon, which itself was formed in 1927.

2005 was Rotary’s Centennial year, and
to celebrate that fact, the Rotary Club of Ripon Rowels joined together with their Mother Club to design, finance and re-erect
seven ‘sanctuary crosses’ around the Ripon boundary
in the same sites they were originally placed all those years
ago to mark the area of sanctuary afforded by the Church.

Rotary was founded in 1905 when Paul Harris, a
Chicago Attorney, met with three friends, a Coal Dealer, a Mining
Engineer and
a Merchant Tailor.
Meeting in “Rotation” at each
others place of business, they soon resolved that there could
be a higher purpose of service to others in the community.

Rotary Ethos |
Our Club was formed in 1990 as an offshoot of our Mother Club,
the Rotary Club of Ripon.
At that time it was recognised that
there were a lot of people living in Ripon who would make good
Rotarians but were unable to make the lunchtime commitment of
the existing Rotary Club.

The
Lightwater Laike Mountain Bike Race is now in its 18th year,
and all proceeds, as always, are donated to charity.
Easy online registration is available, and full race results are posted on the website along with a comprehensive event photo gallery.
Each year the event draws more and more interest, and we expect
this year to be better than ever.
